<br />
Hi readers! (those left!) In order to not be a completely failed blogger, I thought I'd post a round up of my makes this year just in time!<br />
<br />
As you all should know by now, you can find me regularly on instagram <a href="https://www.instagram.com/oldhousemamawears/">@oldhousemamawears </a>where a regularly post my makes and other tidbits of my life! If you don't follow please do!<br />
<br />
However in the interested of blogger posterity, here's a round up! I wanted to make some fancy infographics like I've seen other awesome bloggers do, but who am I kidding! Here are my photos, gathered loosely in a couple of themes. <br />
<br />
I'll end off with some goals and plans for next year. Happy New Year everyone!<br />
<br />
<b><span style="font-family: inherit;">SELFISH SEWS</span></b>- I made 37ish things for me this year! not bad!<br />

I have a mostly handmade wardrobe now, but without a lot of thought as to what I needed and what actually goes together. I'm very big at just sewing what I like. I have little time to sew, so I often don't want to bother with the boring stuff. Thing is, boring stuff is actually pretty easy to make!<br />
<br />
So I thought I'd test out a mini capsule, by making stuff I REALLY needed. Christmas outfits. [Insert hilarious laughter from my audience] Seriously guys, I have a problem, I did not need more Christmas clothes. What I do need is pants, and more separates. This plan did have a silver lining though. I DID actually make several separates that are totally not really Christmasy and work together in various combos (when I don't wear them with Christmas socks ;) so it was actually a win-win for my wardrobe! Actually everything I made an be worn beyond. I do have two pretty kitschy pieces, but I made them in previous years, and they serve to Christmas up my outfits!<br />
<br />
Lets start with the subtle:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJYEAiILou7RKkkj3kFmAb2cgAZc_Oe7pR-FoyQvihaHx0e9B3TYtBVKH5-ufn4yRrQkvTGIZCxoKadV1IgdwkyroSyyITdOyBhvZJ6AJdyOSL32VrsyfaFOpvWmb_4mFD9pU1fWy64to/s1600/IMG_2928.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJYEAiILou7RKkkj3kFmAb2cgAZc_Oe7pR-FoyQvihaHx0e9B3TYtBVKH5-ufn4yRrQkvTGIZCxoKadV1IgdwkyroSyyITdOyBhvZJ6AJdyOSL32VrsyfaFOpvWmb_4mFD9pU1fWy64to/s640/IMG_2928.jpg" width="404" /></a></div>
<a href="http://www.lovenotions.com/shop/sloane-sweater-xs-xxl">Sloane Sweater </a>(basic sweater knit) with double gauze inserts. Super comfy and casual for every day.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMF9FcGJkGkhJ1mywAe2fQPyLlJBaBt0mKiAtzC6t2jVR_95IdqZDaZlJeaPrRkhCF2gV4RDOZk5JUnGiINJYTnTqFDzLomgdf3nPf0FT8oF9GHnEZA5F2syq3l5aLJ9h_FhiDiPi9iq4/s1600/IMG_2936.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMF9FcGJkGkhJ1mywAe2fQPyLlJBaBt0mKiAtzC6t2jVR_95IdqZDaZlJeaPrRkhCF2gV4RDOZk5JUnGiINJYTnTqFDzLomgdf3nPf0FT8oF9GHnEZA5F2syq3l5aLJ9h_FhiDiPi9iq4/s640/IMG_2936.jpg" width="398" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now pair that sweater with a crazy Gnome print skirt and red tights? CHRISTMAS PARTY TIME. Seriously, I wore this to my work party. We went indoor glow in the dark mini golfing. I beat my bosses boss. That's good for my career right?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now on to the less subtle:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioMvFYZuDPAERN0vMPAC-I2AmT_OZ_9k-KncF6aPi7UUJBAfuF7WGavNf0QvkQpkd68G_IX0QHkCYu7bpQOu6QbcMRRBlhx0GqRI-xTO_6DxIuTAXHWj7efyQFwhjLSxxyMocMTicuznM/s1600/IMG_2941.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioMvFYZuDPAERN0vMPAC-I2AmT_OZ_9k-KncF6aPi7UUJBAfuF7WGavNf0QvkQpkd68G_IX0QHkCYu7bpQOu6QbcMRRBlhx0GqRI-xTO_6DxIuTAXHWj7efyQFwhjLSxxyMocMTicuznM/s640/IMG_2941.jpg" width="384" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://shop.made-by-rae.com/products/washi-expansion-pack">Washi (expansion pack version with the BOW clearly)</a> in Christmas washi fabric! My mom knows my love of Christmas clothes and bought this for me this fabric in the summer and told me to make a dress. So OF COURSE it had to be a wash.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVTwETzztIcV5Kin3bSx7LH9m0MIaE6rLqrJNTY7Jg_tmjauR4S49vRTyZ7DOM18cEVd0Mkux5CqE63PoluBW10kINMCioziuJ6sgoqx3eyzFSkU6wkQHPcbfK5rkBZxxU6o1N6D3DWA4/s1600/IMG_2945.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVTwETzztIcV5Kin3bSx7LH9m0MIaE6rLqrJNTY7Jg_tmjauR4S49vRTyZ7DOM18cEVd0Mkux5CqE63PoluBW10kINMCioziuJ6sgoqx3eyzFSkU6wkQHPcbfK5rkBZxxU6o1N6D3DWA4/s640/IMG_2945.jpg" width="392" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Don't worry I don't normally go around with no sweater in the winter. (Sweater hand knit by my fabulous mother in yarn first dyed for this sweater and now a standard colour over at <a href="http://www.indigodragonfly.ca/colours/img_0736/">Indigo Dragonfly yarn</a>) and red tights of course.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now back to the subtle..</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

It forces me to sew on a timeline and use up fabric from my stash, you never really know how it's gonna turn out and often get a chance to use new techniques. It also forces me to blog, ha! As a busy summer meant I... never blogged at all.<br />
<br />
It's all win-win really. So I naturally jumped at a chance to test for the Denver Dress, part of the <a href="http://patternanthology.com/">Unbiased Collection</a> out from Pattern Anthology now! (It's $29.95 for a limited time only too and comes with some nice bonuses!)<br />

I love a knit dress (secret pajama's ya'll!) and this one is definitely comfy! I'm quickly becoming a fan of princess seams too as they are easily adjusted for my teeny bust. And it comes with instructions for large and small bust adjustments!<br />

I had this fabulous slightly heavier weight cotton/lycra from Verhees that I picked up from one of my favorite Canadian shops <a href="http://www.duncanandkatefabrics.com/">Duncan and Kate </a>and it was perfect! I think the dress could work in any knit though! <br />

I'm planning a number of tunics for the winter with the pattern now!<br />
<br />

So when Dixie over at <a href="http://dixiediy.com/">Dixie DIY </a>posted about her new dress pattern, <a href="http://dixiediy.bigcartel.com/product/bonnell-dress">the Bonnell,</a> I knew I wanted to join in and she kindly let me!<br />
<br />
I had actually just gotten in some delicious Nani Iro Double gauze in from the fabulous <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/221921607/japanese-fabric-nani-iro-birds-eye?ref=shop_home_active_23">Miss Matatabi </a>and was looking for a pattern to use with it, and so BAM, it was a perfect match if I do say so myself!<br />
<br />
I'm also secretly (ok not secretly) sewing a mini capsule wardrobe of soft pretty dresses for a trip to Prince Edward County Wine country in July (our first trip over night away from our boys!) So again, PERFECT.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMt9aPWZYtyX65i0RXVv7xmuywZGAs8hA8CPiKTP7fwAG9JsAFQTaknrEkokBTJW-bYtb4HTMRw5afjJ9GeshbnNg_yEV1WsJmBSoXZQeWIRjIus-gaY8O8orwp0vQUd5ZclC5otoThQM/s1600/IMG_2219.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMt9aPWZYtyX65i0RXVv7xmuywZGAs8hA8CPiKTP7fwAG9JsAFQTaknrEkokBTJW-bYtb4HTMRw5afjJ9GeshbnNg_yEV1WsJmBSoXZQeWIRjIus-gaY8O8orwp0vQUd5ZclC5otoThQM/s640/IMG_2219.jpg" width="440" /></a></div>
<br />
I had also wanted to get out of my habit of making loose fitting, or knit dresses and attempt to fit a woven bodice again, so this dress gave me a chance! I didn't do the best job and had to do some post construction adjustments, but I mainly blame that on the fact I have no dress form and it's hard to fit something on yourself with a back closure, oops! It still worked out, and I'm inspired to actually spend the time next time and do a proper Small Bust Adjustment. Oh and Dixie has basically done the best thing ever and written up <a href="http://dixiediy.com/2015/05/small-bust-adjustment-on-a-2-dart-bodice-tutorial.html">the best tutorial ever </a>on how to do this! Most tutorials out there are on Full bust adjustments and so I just never felt like figuring it out, and usually just do side seam and bust dart length adjustments, so I'm excited to try her tutorial next time and it get a perfect bodice fit! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw5Os_rvNawPWPIYobK0Q3kSQP-63BaZVpiQ7hDhaOEfFYtpPiapAyX5gN__5To4fRq5ILSDIlU96C1mw149zAnjqdQP8s8hSZyyrO5S9AUcPCLyfaQROOtOwoVtHOB-Eqkk6s9qn_y34/s1600/IMG_2221.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw5Os_rvNawPWPIYobK0Q3kSQP-63BaZVpiQ7hDhaOEfFYtpPiapAyX5gN__5To4fRq5ILSDIlU96C1mw149zAnjqdQP8s8hSZyyrO5S9AUcPCLyfaQROOtOwoVtHOB-Eqkk6s9qn_y34/s640/IMG_2221.jpg" width="438" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I was super impressed by the direction and pattern too, loved the diagrams and it was all easy to follow! Aside from the bust/bodice adjustments, which were well with the realm of what I would expect to do with any pattern for my measurements, I added my standard 1 inch to the bodice, and 1 to the skirt as well to adjust for my 5'8" frame.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgkDxXoKvr7Ljsuy6V-EjLaowHhUwWCWT-kMeidAtTR_Yz8HLiQVDurZ2l4ccZLW8ZNFbxzzYJ2eqng-zXBclpCr2IUvXv2S7ECYT08U8WYh4MHM1ltnmC06-rTEVitbFOX9-p78jjE24/s1600/IMG_2218.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgkDxXoKvr7Ljsuy6V-EjLaowHhUwWCWT-kMeidAtTR_Yz8HLiQVDurZ2l4ccZLW8ZNFbxzzYJ2eqng-zXBclpCr2IUvXv2S7ECYT08U8WYh4MHM1ltnmC06-rTEVitbFOX9-p78jjE24/s640/IMG_2218.jpg" width="443" /></a></div>
<br />
It even has POCKETS, all dresses should have these.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyIW2bec5-_CiPserxYhyGmdxMtSnyhAZCEt0AXe935GNf4aITVZ4sOWfZlQU8zehuVBX7HuM_YW8RKr3lmsckHF5pfNwVR4h_PSxfgwJP4kmW6Tluxd6_dBLP_ifffExjgz_4jjU74YM/s1600/IMG_2215.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyIW2bec5-_CiPserxYhyGmdxMtSnyhAZCEt0AXe935GNf4aITVZ4sOWfZlQU8zehuVBX7HuM_YW8RKr3lmsckHF5pfNwVR4h_PSxfgwJP4kmW6Tluxd6_dBLP_ifffExjgz_4jjU74YM/s640/IMG_2215.jpg" width="448" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
The cutouts are so fun and unexpected! The double gauze did make it a
bit hard to get the crisp corners I would have liked (soo shifty
sometimes!) but it makes it so soft and lovely wear! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAxySf7fSjYt5tRZF6xYwA8EkW9b8fydXjQF73I_kriQ4lGJQ-_PWzN4myEXKgq9haDWZJAv1QT370IivSgjyPR74hTxuv6TivnER9i5eHAOCZlDgajWCpStnDZklKFv4aiYRFK9EGSCI/s1600/IMG_2212.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAxySf7fSjYt5tRZF6xYwA8EkW9b8fydXjQF73I_kriQ4lGJQ-_PWzN4myEXKgq9haDWZJAv1QT370IivSgjyPR74hTxuv6TivnER9i5eHAOCZlDgajWCpStnDZklKFv4aiYRFK9EGSCI/s640/IMG_2212.jpg" width="420" /></a></div>
<br />
And the V in the back is perfect with the neck in the front! Oh and I totally can put in an invisible zipper without flinching now! So odd to think they used to freak me out!<br />
<br />
All in all, a good kick off to summer dress sewing! Goodbye snow, hello sun! <br />
<br />
The pattern releases TOMORROW May 19! <a href="http://dixiediy.bigcartel.com/product/bonnell-dress">Go check it out!</a> And tell me, what kind of dress would be on your winery vacation list? <br />

<br />
In the meantime I thought I'd blog one of the many dresses I've made for me lately! I'm thinking I'm gonna do a series of brief posts on each so they are at least recorded for posterity eh?<br />
<br />
I'm particularly in love with making dresses in knits. They are usually pretty easy, quick, cute and comfy, like wearing your pajamas to work.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7PiiNN24ZL7aoygZ7sRt-i7eqystKNxMdI4NRi22GXRNUSuR6b1c_8P3UOKCtyLQsBgeOF85ce8vcdJhGUBI6E5XFp9HjT6962QRAn1yPb_FSCgYdY0-DMI6YrpKZsKuofj0iryvbiiQ/s1600/IMG_0727.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7PiiNN24ZL7aoygZ7sRt-i7eqystKNxMdI4NRi22GXRNUSuR6b1c_8P3UOKCtyLQsBgeOF85ce8vcdJhGUBI6E5XFp9HjT6962QRAn1yPb_FSCgYdY0-DMI6YrpKZsKuofj0iryvbiiQ/s1600/IMG_0727.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;"> Don't worry, these pictures are almost a month old so the snow is gone now ;)</span></div>
<br />
The <a href="http://blankslatepatterns.com/collections/women/products/pocket-full-of-posies-dress">Pocketful of Posies dress </a>from Blank Slate Patterns fits this bill very well. It's loose fitting dress, so definitely comfy, and also adorable. I'd had the pattern for a while and wasn't sure what fabric to use until I remembered I'd been hoarding a couple meters of this organic Birch knit in the flight pattern I picked up a <a href="http://www.simplififabric.com/">Simplifi Fabric</a> last year. It's a slightly heavier interlock, so the perfect weight for this! And since I have a colour problem and the flight knit was just grey, I had to add a coloured ribbing!<br />

<br />
I wasn't 100% of the style on me, but after making this one I'm sold. I love the big pockets and the easy comfy wearing. I tend to wear flats, but I could see myself dressing it up with heels or boots depending. It's a pretty good transitional piece too with the medium length sleeves, but loose enough it'll last well into summer and then again in the fall!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1ro1DJCVhwBDTMMiLJnO-FqKlxK65pmslgVT8SMdgGoOoo4g9gLgdVSS1fxohTYn-3H5LsNLM48oy0LOjNKTTRF2bkuiCy1cWd-49x7VTDLwWzoj7yaWoGZ98S5P9sH1o7UFlnPtJGRM/s1600/IMG_0723.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1ro1DJCVhwBDTMMiLJnO-FqKlxK65pmslgVT8SMdgGoOoo4g9gLgdVSS1fxohTYn-3H5LsNLM48oy0LOjNKTTRF2bkuiCy1cWd-49x7VTDLwWzoj7yaWoGZ98S5P9sH1o7UFlnPtJGRM/s1600/IMG_0723.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
And with all of Melly's patterns, the instructions were great and it was easy put together!<br />
<br />
So whose with me on the awesomeness of knit dresses? It feels a bit like cheating when I wear them to work, but I'm gonna keep doing it!<br />

I'll continue to admit it, but I'll still say I will blog occasionally. Just not that last word.... occasionally. So once every 3 months seems normal then right?<br />
<br />
I think I've found the source of my slow blogging, photo editing! hate it, hate having to find the camera cable and upload, ha.<br />
<br />
So in the intervening months, you should just follow me on INSTAGRAM. I post everything there, sometimes as bad selfies, sometimes as better photos. I've discovered the community on instragram is sooo awesome! So many designers and bloggers all interacting quickly and easily. So quick and easy to find others versions of patterns and brief commentaries too. Love it! And even if you don't wanna contribute or don't have a good device for it, you can sign up and follow me! (link on the right!)<br />
<br />
Here's a peek at my feed! sewing and cute kids mostly ;)<br />

<br />
However in honour of spring <a href="http://imaginegnats.com/selfish-sewing-week/">Selfish Sewing Week</a>, I'll blog the three things I finished this week, mmmmm k?<br />
<br />
It's still snowing here in Canadia, although it's finally hovering around and just above 0, after a RECORD breaking cold winter. So cardigans are still a must.<br />
<br />
I love the idea of the woven accent on <a href="http://shwindesigns.bigcartel.com/product/beautiful-dreamer-cardigan">Shwin Designs Beautiful Dream Cardigan </a>when she first released last year, and I finally sewed one up! I got a scrap pack of Japanese fabrics from <a href="https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/MissMatatabi">Miss Matatab</a>i last fall too, so this was perfect for my little piece of Nani Iro double gauze.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I'm part of a Facebook group that has monthly sew alongs for NON-English Patterns, and this month it's a couple patterns from the Dutch pattern magazine <a href="http://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fdev01212.cloudsgento.com%2Frok-pdf-patroon-3529%2F&h=SAQGwhuw2&s=1">Knipmode</a>. The instructions.... aren't easily translated, even for my Dutch Mother! But with a decent knowledge of proper garment construction I was able to pull of this knit skirt from some glorious navy french terry bought at <a href="http://www.loiseaufabrics.com/">L'oiseau Fabric</a>. Not the best pic, but it's like wearing track pants, but a skirt!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhG1PmSaOq3OPp9ITn8O6_v30wGFvoLOiH2Fo2jaF1BGqJWij2kNi0ZcxMzxqS6Zj1orIc2sviuov94oxEpB9a8-xcWzctzXW8fbuHPXgCNKMeg1S7To0AvtstHhx_quSNhZIrxcOKUSQA/s1600/IMG_2156.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhG1PmSaOq3OPp9ITn8O6_v30wGFvoLOiH2Fo2jaF1BGqJWij2kNi0ZcxMzxqS6Zj1orIc2sviuov94oxEpB9a8-xcWzctzXW8fbuHPXgCNKMeg1S7To0AvtstHhx_quSNhZIrxcOKUSQA/s1600/IMG_2156.JPG" height="640" width="456" /></a></div>
<br />
Lastly, I finally used up this awesome bicycle fabric I picked up on a visit to <a href="http://www.simplififabric.com/">Simplifi Fabric </a>last year. I wasn't convinced of this pattern, the <a href="http://www.christinehaynes.com/products/marianne-dress-sewing-pattern">Marianne Dress </a>from Christine Haynes, but it seemed perfect for a directional fabric like this and BOOM, I love it, it's perfect. Next time I need to size up the sleeves (a bit snug on the XS) but seriously, I need the snow to melt so I can get to my shed and BIKE!<br />
<br />

<br />
Also, I HATE taking pictures inside, my house is too dark, I can never take a good photo unless it's outside! Hurry up SPRING!<br />
<br />
How's your spring sewing going?<br />
<br />Johannahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13800066791757784747noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1820637424288227727.post-77263375034881031752014-12-31T14:35:00.004-05:002014-12-31T14:36:27.744-05:00Sewn in 2014I know, you've all missed me. I admit, I'm lazy and usually just post in instagram these days. However today you're all in luck! I've written a 2014 wrap up post!<br />
<br />
I won't add too much commentary, but will mention my favorite makes from each bunch. And yes, I've sewn a ton more this year than <a href="http://oldhousemama.blogspot.ca/2014/01/2013-short-review.html">last</a>, so I've categorized them. And yes a ton of these have not been blogged (and some aren't even pictured at all!) <br />
<br />
<u><b>Sewing for Me - Shirt-dress edition</b></u><br />
<br />
I'm probably the proudest of these. I love shirt-dresses as wear each of them regularly. The Alder is probably my favorite and I have an second on my spring sewing list! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGMcW2wDAfiV7d5HheSgAMAl4xgmut__-0mQqB_6GuagHXcEvcVXdTeRd3AUvwUKZBDL5z2oEumO3pjHwMWVnKj5iP5J8noJZ1U59lDB22-u1yFaidnUnedUNxl5uCvq8l5NNV5aKKnQ4/s1600/Shirtdress.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGMcW2wDAfiV7d5HheSgAMAl4xgmut__-0mQqB_6GuagHXcEvcVXdTeRd3AUvwUKZBDL5z2oEumO3pjHwMWVnKj5iP5J8noJZ1U59lDB22-u1yFaidnUnedUNxl5uCvq8l5NNV5aKKnQ4/s1600/Shirtdress.jpg" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<u><b>Sewing for me - Knits edition!</b></u><br />
<br />
since getting a better machine and later a serger, knit projects are quickly becoming my favorites! So quick and easy wearing! I made a second Sewaholic Saltspring this year, but the Colette Monetta is becoming a favorite for dresses. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxCyzkec3q-gOD19_RcYtgjGpcos5CZkonNtQGa1PdsDCbCWCKP_ywnLJqwh5uLgYkwUIBaOa5QtcNXtoKXP5roXFxH71IBg8ADFJxgivf_Sj155-A5JjiWTboXdN_IDqr9T5NWEdf8oc/s1600/Knitdress.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxCyzkec3q-gOD19_RcYtgjGpcos5CZkonNtQGa1PdsDCbCWCKP_ywnLJqwh5uLgYkwUIBaOa5QtcNXtoKXP5roXFxH71IBg8ADFJxgivf_Sj155-A5JjiWTboXdN_IDqr9T5NWEdf8oc/s1600/Knitdress.jpg" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Knit shirts are sooo quick! My nani iro Lane Raglan is probably my fav or this bunch! My blue and green cardigan is sadly my least worn, a bit too small and a bit too bright!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRWbCmCpf2le-i_m5RGvVQVX7ih7AYWy7xyYGxYR84WRgXa8EO-c_yohvlr0gXwmYXz36b6KJt8VOQYZLuEo-bgZSApgQ8rrsatt9wnW9AUqq7cMlfPc9pxB2KqFQjdk2c3EF3yzl3irw/s1600/Knitshirts.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRWbCmCpf2le-i_m5RGvVQVX7ih7AYWy7xyYGxYR84WRgXa8EO-c_yohvlr0gXwmYXz36b6KJt8VOQYZLuEo-bgZSApgQ8rrsatt9wnW9AUqq7cMlfPc9pxB2KqFQjdk2c3EF3yzl3irw/s1600/Knitshirts.jpg" height="518" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<u><b> Sewing for me - The Rest</b></u><br />
<br />
I made a bunch of Wiksten Tanks this year. I can squeeze them out of a meter and they are so quick! Also made my first Jacket, thanks my pattern testing experience with the lovely ladies at Pattern Anthology! I plan to make a ton more blouse/woven tops in the near future, probably including more Wiksten and more Zippys! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEge3CHbUQJiC-btVGY_mV02WjgGo5rC54UURv1uZmQQcAJxfL8X6_Vh41MxtPaSt6HcyD4ByxqaLaiftieZwakibytg74OiSKY_Y4wafudQVkIfMLCH5hN5rkW8RXT7nLn9S-ypmycdi90/s1600/Wovensewn.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEge3CHbUQJiC-btVGY_mV02WjgGo5rC54UURv1uZmQQcAJxfL8X6_Vh41MxtPaSt6HcyD4ByxqaLaiftieZwakibytg74OiSKY_Y4wafudQVkIfMLCH5hN5rkW8RXT7nLn9S-ypmycdi90/s1600/Wovensewn.jpg" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<u><b> Sewing for Boys - Knits Edition</b></u><br />
<br />
This year I discovered the rabbit hole of Euro knits and custom knit fabric groups. I had no idea there were sooo many beautiful patterns out there and lets just say I've accumulated quite a collection. Good thing sewing up shirts, hoodies etc. from knits is so quick and fun!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3vUV2APCVP8C7TnWflzdUQMpb9uKziMFU13wUi8enCt9l-0s6gNaSJDxxm25yEFJoWqdQiM7gI4_I25NpxzWQY4eouGSp8oGZykNm7DyWVWwaekhZxbNGFB9-DMfX0XIoL0-8jQr7fn4/s1600/KidsKnits.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3vUV2APCVP8C7TnWflzdUQMpb9uKziMFU13wUi8enCt9l-0s6gNaSJDxxm25yEFJoWqdQiM7gI4_I25NpxzWQY4eouGSp8oGZykNm7DyWVWwaekhZxbNGFB9-DMfX0XIoL0-8jQr7fn4/s1600/KidsKnits.jpg" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<u><b> Sewing for Boys - The Rest</b></u><br />
<br />
I got to sew my first button down for my boys this year, and I hope to make more, nothing is cuter! I also hope to make them more pants, because... I didn't make them any this year, ha. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj56iRX-mRildEeigVdC9SMgQ1Iw0wSlc7WfYH6dgcTxBWQtK7vtf2qMLemRtWyTyZ_clC_EqB67LFcKrTKujW6Jk4CbupxU3wl_cGUWql4wK3iwYYwoHfJVMFz6C_8szf5Ydvx0XjNwps/s1600/KidsOther.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj56iRX-mRildEeigVdC9SMgQ1Iw0wSlc7WfYH6dgcTxBWQtK7vtf2qMLemRtWyTyZ_clC_EqB67LFcKrTKujW6Jk4CbupxU3wl_cGUWql4wK3iwYYwoHfJVMFz6C_8szf5Ydvx0XjNwps/s1600/KidsOther.jpg" height="488" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And last but not least...<br />
<br />
<u><b>Sewing for my Man </b></u><br />
<br />
I finally got around to sewing him up a few things just before Christmas this year. And I plan more now that having a serger makes these projects quick sews! Too bad their size means they still take forever to cut!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib-wiL0TyCsByoQlugDM7oYTvKZkDk-z3vgqpMV7yPwu9zbLt_xxg_tGsmt6vcL7Q8c09AO0AMpQDswpTZyaRMPeosGOMJ-egnDtd0ZcHg9Mr1qQ1KUvpspxLec4Ud9uT_zeJIcAhBWMI/s1600/Husbandsewing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib-wiL0TyCsByoQlugDM7oYTvKZkDk-z3vgqpMV7yPwu9zbLt_xxg_tGsmt6vcL7Q8c09AO0AMpQDswpTZyaRMPeosGOMJ-egnDtd0ZcHg9Mr1qQ1KUvpspxLec4Ud9uT_zeJIcAhBWMI/s1600/Husbandsewing.jpg" height="508" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<u><b>Plans for Next Year - I'll keep it simple again</b></u><br />
<br />
1.) SEW FROM MY STASH. I said this last year, but my stash is significantly larger, so seems more reasonable. But that said, I looove supporting my local store <a href="http://www.fabricationsottawa.com/">Fabrications</a> and the several awesome online Canadian stores.... so I suspect I'll still buy a bit.<br />
2.) Make more things for my Man.<br />
3.) Make more basics (ha) I looove pattern, but I'm hoping to make me and my boys wardrobe almost entirely handmade by adding a few more basics!<br />
<br />
So how was your 2014, and whats up for 2015?<br />
<br />Johannahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13800066791757784747noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1820637424288227727.post-71490883539554606192014-10-28T20:06:00.001-04:002014-12-31T14:36:38.647-05:00Baby Jaguars!With M getting older, I'm always a bit worried he's going to request some crazy costume that will be difficult to make. So when he asked to be a jaguar, I jumped on that suggestion!<br />
<br />
Originally little E was going to just wear M's costume from two years ago (a blue dinosaur) but I couldn't resist making a second jaguar costume!<br />
<br />
And when a local photography friend of mine,<a href="http://jsparksphotography.zenfolio.com/"> J.Sparks Photography</a> offered me one of her Halloween mini sessions? Again I just couldn't resist. She's photographed my kids (and myself!) several times always with super awesome results! Oh and she's also a super awesome mom, so glad to know her! Thanks Jenna!<br />

As for the details on the costumes. I used for the 3rd year now, the <a href="http://www.running-w-scissors.com/2007/01/woodland-animal-costume-sewing-pattern.html">Woodland Animal Costume pattern from Running with Scissors</a>! I just added my own tail and ears! Such a versatile suit that can be customized a million ways! I do wish I hate cut out the larger hood size for E, as he apparently has a large head! It worked ok, and they love them! They were being worn around the house for days until they had to get washed! <br />

Happy Halloween everyone!Johannahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13800066791757784747noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1820637424288227727.post-81519802258830166162014-10-22T21:20:00.000-04:002014-10-22T21:20:03.314-04:00Fall KCW - Sewing with KnitsFull disclosure up front. I'm using this post as an excuse to share a few things that I've sewn for the kids over the last err months. I'm actually terribly behind in blogging my projects. Most seem to only ever appear briefly on my i<a href="http://instagram.com/oldhousemamawears">nstagram</a>. They then get worn and never photographed further... oops?<br />
<br />
So I thought I'd use the excuse of<a href="http://www.kidsclothesweek.com/"> Kids Clothes Week</a> to blog about how much I LOVE sewing with knits for kids!! I've developed a slight knit fabric obsession over the last 6-12 months. I blame the internet mostly, and as a result have realized how easy, cute, comfy and quick sewing things up in knit is. I also finally have a working SERGER which basically changes the game of sewing with knits completely.<br />
<br />
The internets are covered in cute knit fabric and adorable patterns to use them with. My<a href="http://www.pinterest.com/oldhousemama/"> Pinterest</a> Boards has some links and I'll share a few more with my projects below!<br />
<br />
But first a few of my favorite stores for knits! I'm personally obsessed with all the cute prints that come out of Europe and <a href="http://www.loiseaufabrics.com/">L'Oiseau</a>, <a href="http://www.simplififabric.com/">Simpli Fabric </a>and <a href="https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/duncanandkatefabrics">Duncan and Kate</a> are my Canadian Favs. I also order sometimes from some custom print groups on Facebook, a few now have non Facebook presences like <a href="http://the-fabric-snob.myshopify.com/">The Fabric Snob</a> and <a href="http://hyenacart.com/sweetncharmed/6190/category/3/Sweet-N-Charmed-Fabrics-by-Sweet-Cheekz">Sweet N Charmed</a>. My local shop <a href="http://www.fabricationsottawa.com/">Fabrications </a>is now getting in Art Gallery knits and should have them online soon too! <br />
<br />
Raglan tees - probably my favorite sew for the boys, and I've made a bunch. My go to pattern is <a href="http://seekatesew.bigcartel.com/product/recess-raglan-pdf-pattern-18m-to-8">See Kate Sew's Recess Raglan</a>. Quick and an awesome fit of my guys! Here are a couple of my favorites:<br />

<br />
And the companion to that R2D2 shirt would be these pants from <a href="https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/maxandmeena">Max and Meena's Maxaloones pattern</a>. They are all the rage in the cloth diaper world for their roomy butt fit and general adorableness.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And now that I've reminded you all of summer, here are a few pictures of the adorable tanks I made for the boys. After I made little E the bus shirt, he just ran around saying bussssss, busssss. These guys are too much some days! These were made using the FREE <a href="http://www.fishsticksdesigns.com/blog/the-updated-free-tank-the-red-carpet-awards/">Fishsticks Tank pattern</a>! I'm thinking I can layer them over button down shirts for the winter. That wouldn't be too much would it? </div>

Recently I also made a second <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/125543459/bimaa-sweater-pdf-sewing-pattern-hoodie">Bimaa Hoodie</a> for my oldest first every school picture day! Sadly it may be the only time he wears it as he's recently declared he no longer likes knights... argh! good things his little brother will fit in it soon!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And I've recently started sewing up a few girly knits for little friends. Most recently this <a href="http://www.brindilletwig.com/collections/dresses-skirts/products/031-raglan-pocket-dress">Raglan Pocket Dress by Brindille & Twig!</a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQtD4_Dmngs8aF7QolXaETb4LtGhwYYzroDOZzjUOdSQ60menWW1SCgv0O9SrVNnsr5JwUQGa8tsBAOcwafnZJXB6cCMR84EioaGfBJ4ZQnt_41qQDYOF7rlBKLD3ufl4h_pJ0g7mdlqc/s1600/Image.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQtD4_Dmngs8aF7QolXaETb4LtGhwYYzroDOZzjUOdSQ60menWW1SCgv0O9SrVNnsr5JwUQGa8tsBAOcwafnZJXB6cCMR84EioaGfBJ4ZQnt_41qQDYOF7rlBKLD3ufl4h_pJ0g7mdlqc/s1600/Image.jpg" height="640" width="478" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And LAST but not least, something I actually sewed during this KCW! Pajamas! Used the top and cuffs from <a href="http://www.peekaboopatternshop.com/alex-anna-winter-pjs/">Peek-a-boo Patterns Alex and Anna Winter PJ's</a>. But used the <a href="http://blankslatepatterns.com/products/clean-slate-pants-shorts-capris">Clean Slate Pants</a> from Blank Slate Patterns as a starting point for the flannel pants. I've decided PJ's are the perfect knit fabric stash buster! you can use crazy colour combos that work as PJ's, but not necessarily as other clothing!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

And a Zippy TopQuick, only 12 hours left to get in on the great deal that is the <a href="http://patternanthology.com/products/8-days-a-week-collection">8 Days a Week collection from Pattern Anthology!</a> I'm finally sharing the last pattern I test for this collection, the knit pants!<br />
<br />
This pants pattern is pretty much every pair of knit pants you'd ever need to make in one pattern! I made up a pair of leggins, but the the lounge pants are on my list!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEie3FvyMOGPYD-PTHOEEzovz8-pCSoH29v-o9_x-rtDDZiN8ZGYY41HRWr6DZmp9nNnlJedccYFvusTDoTDfKlF2rkegCVRMeEW6pbtCXmbfFSjdxFuEnBJm6YTpM2rq3-bKIQMffaIbpY/s1600/Image+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEie3FvyMOGPYD-PTHOEEzovz8-pCSoH29v-o9_x-rtDDZiN8ZGYY41HRWr6DZmp9nNnlJedccYFvusTDoTDfKlF2rkegCVRMeEW6pbtCXmbfFSjdxFuEnBJm6YTpM2rq3-bKIQMffaIbpY/s1600/Image+2.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I live in leggings on weekends, and had not yet gotten around to making my own. And I'm glad a did! They are a super quick sew! I may never buy leggings again! <br />
<br />
I used some luxuriously soft bamboo knit from <a href="http://www.fabricationsottawa.com/">Fabrications</a> and it is kinda the softest stuff ever, perfectly stretchy for these!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXYzUDOllnCNbY7DkdT6L-htK2mp16yY5womaX4MdJzb_nhyphenhypheneVVKSHRM9hmehr1ElTDo6t04I3BRQfbMnZsbBkrPnVsugqaSCfSCrWoOfmQMyWI6eThS5VQOABdj-ffqGGbMp9rBfJWXg/s1600/Image.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXYzUDOllnCNbY7DkdT6L-htK2mp16yY5womaX4MdJzb_nhyphenhypheneVVKSHRM9hmehr1ElTDo6t04I3BRQfbMnZsbBkrPnVsugqaSCfSCrWoOfmQMyWI6eThS5VQOABdj-ffqGGbMp9rBfJWXg/s1600/Image.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Oh and the top? While it's not part of the collection, it is a pattern by one of Pattern Anthology's designer <a href="http://seekatesew.com/">See Kate Sew!</a><br />
<br />
It's the super versatile <a href="http://seekatesew.bigcartel.com/product/the-zippy-top-crop-top">Zippy Top!</a> I wanted a simple top pattern I could use with some of my errr crazier quilting cotton fabric peices and this pattern fitted the bill perfectly!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXp5sEwl8bq__wfW5ISTKFrMbvI64TZqeRCcpaXF7FzWd2sfcZdzK8upxTxpIh4d8FgBNlE8F3DHxIi2wWWC43DTksVIGwzk6j1-TCJdHQflJcIgWjpZgIawS0FZkkcEWgUSEwlPcmsQE/s1600/Image+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXp5sEwl8bq__wfW5ISTKFrMbvI64TZqeRCcpaXF7FzWd2sfcZdzK8upxTxpIh4d8FgBNlE8F3DHxIi2wWWC43DTksVIGwzk6j1-TCJdHQflJcIgWjpZgIawS0FZkkcEWgUSEwlPcmsQE/s1600/Image+1.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
It says to use lightly wieghts, but the heavier quilting cotton just makes it a bit boxier which I still love! However.... I really should remember to iron it...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9DzgeLlrq9Css7CwRhDzX3RoRBTZ7CoKuNvTsuJwuSejZwvcwVALVgICI-jXmvTkpSmZStNoH2wtCEhOh2luVJA4u-FXIiWjw0p8l_0bdnDOT47GRQmeCPgTrweq-Kqfv48XD4uDSf6U/s1600/Image+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9DzgeLlrq9Css7CwRhDzX3RoRBTZ7CoKuNvTsuJwuSejZwvcwVALVgICI-jXmvTkpSmZStNoH2wtCEhOh2luVJA4u-FXIiWjw0p8l_0bdnDOT47GRQmeCPgTrweq-Kqfv48XD4uDSf6U/s1600/Image+3.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I looove this fabric by the way, turquoise horses? Yes please! Thanks Cotton + Steel! <br />
<br />

So excited to be part of today tour for the new <a href="http://patternanthology.com/">Pattern Anthology</a> <a href="http://patternanthology.com/products/8-days-a-week-collection">8 Days a Week Collection</a>! Today I'm sharing my version of the <a href="http://patternanthology.com/products/marigold">Marigold Dress</a>!<br />
<br />
And don't forget to scroll to the end to check out what patterns the others bloggers on the tour are sharing today and to get more details on the collection!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgz3By9fFGSoMzkl71rX43rP30yR06DNcm1vw8vLVL0bx-NIkYPO4YaghDpQiNGLJl3sjG1gc3-jlZn3sE2DSHqx_Dt_hFMwoXtRL7xnTQnfnKAQu2gM_u3siCf0FBjqV4h9btkucNDVls/s1600/IMG_1784.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgz3By9fFGSoMzkl71rX43rP30yR06DNcm1vw8vLVL0bx-NIkYPO4YaghDpQiNGLJl3sjG1gc3-jlZn3sE2DSHqx_Dt_hFMwoXtRL7xnTQnfnKAQu2gM_u3siCf0FBjqV4h9btkucNDVls/s1600/IMG_1784.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I love shirt dresses! Secretly (ok not so secretly) I'd love to have a wardrobe full of them. I probably have 15 or 20 patterns (many of the vintage) for various styles of shirt dresses! In particular I'm in love with vintage styled shirtwaist dresses. You know the ones with fuller skirts that were the common daily wear of such famous people like Mad Men's Betty Draper.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4ohhULF5EArCHXozj_OQOVC38DGPhJsNPiqmZKm0S6i7FoxlQ6likjFLINZkekR2TptTIzq3UPibpCp5YOuFmVuOHkWWkH8aQOL6JFowud2sFWV1PoNYLeJOr3xNdlQnQZut6QifPWM4/s1600/IMG_1940.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4ohhULF5EArCHXozj_OQOVC38DGPhJsNPiqmZKm0S6i7FoxlQ6likjFLINZkekR2TptTIzq3UPibpCp5YOuFmVuOHkWWkH8aQOL6JFowud2sFWV1PoNYLeJOr3xNdlQnQZut6QifPWM4/s1600/IMG_1940.jpg" height="640" width="450" /></a></div>
<br />
Yet I never seem to get around to sewing any! I admit I hate the exercise of measuring and sewing buttons and button holes! So when the Marigold came up during testing as of the patterns for the 8 days a Week Collection it was perfect! I HAD to sew this, no choice really! And I love the results!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivpwAhn6VZ2IkM-I3COHNmBj7onHGswn6HZJ59AqZbYgERM5LOH2oFLMgZixQEmDYZisiklPHAujZ3nJzVa4lYUKCOHZpeyDo_WINoWI9QsXJr9d3UVZgPPS6Xn9kZwBv_yBVr1bpT4TY/s1600/IMG_1907.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivpwAhn6VZ2IkM-I3COHNmBj7onHGswn6HZJ59AqZbYgERM5LOH2oFLMgZixQEmDYZisiklPHAujZ3nJzVa4lYUKCOHZpeyDo_WINoWI9QsXJr9d3UVZgPPS6Xn9kZwBv_yBVr1bpT4TY/s1600/IMG_1907.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
The skirt is just full enough (and will be even better when I finally make a bit of a petticoat for it!) But not crazy 50's housewife full. The bodice style makes it not restrictive to wear and the elastic waist makes it super comfy! Throw on a structured belt and bingo! Wondering about the fabric? It's a voile from Anna Maria Horner and is super lovely and perfect for this dress!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKpvlEnB1p3WvwYfYzh33QlqP1GREUPwh_pZZ4KGjnyzrsAcbCjquRKKRZYZ2A9paquX7I_eULybL8xpvhgW1JxCSeBq17LO3h2oH5tWoM17TmP7rz4SuaNDeAG3OCA5Z6x3vg0gxwqfI/s1600/IMG_1910.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKpvlEnB1p3WvwYfYzh33QlqP1GREUPwh_pZZ4KGjnyzrsAcbCjquRKKRZYZ2A9paquX7I_eULybL8xpvhgW1JxCSeBq17LO3h2oH5tWoM17TmP7rz4SuaNDeAG3OCA5Z6x3vg0gxwqfI/s1600/IMG_1910.jpg" height="640" width="504" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm usually not a long sleeve dress person, but I made the long sleeve version button cuffs and all! And they weren't nearly as scary as I thought! Most of the pictures here have the sleeves partially rolled up. I admit to being a huge fan of mid-length sleeves, and the nice thing about cuffed sleeves like this, you have the room to roll them up when you undo the cuff! Win-win!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgy6mP1dqrnXMWx28xRHTniPSJLKlvASE2AiJvzMs2KDRbTXrG9AvYyILzX00jevkO8UtJjbilu5LEX2_4A39lmxxG6M5MJwHr4NIkkv-eM3UhGDq3M-trUlyhwjGVfZReVcQmjE-KWo1o/s1600/IMG_1922.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgy6mP1dqrnXMWx28xRHTniPSJLKlvASE2AiJvzMs2KDRbTXrG9AvYyILzX00jevkO8UtJjbilu5LEX2_4A39lmxxG6M5MJwHr4NIkkv-eM3UhGDq3M-trUlyhwjGVfZReVcQmjE-KWo1o/s1600/IMG_1922.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
And wondering why the post title? Why because I took the dress (and my silly expressions and frizzy hair!) to the local farmers market for photos of course! The first photo was from my first attempt at photographs which ended inside a building to escape the pouring rain! Ahh the joys of blogging! It's surprisingly hard to get good photos of oneself when your photographer is either your distracted husband (silly kids!) or a tripod on a table with a timer (Maybe I need to buy a real tripod eh?)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBaj54VEuCUMGaRqiybnM3ugNYC2YuXG-Fn6z1BsxMNOM3RCiQehsK9c3qNPGhi7rHi3dmfU4bHdmGtHJdWCKvJuMZNWLnvmAZjjdw6Z6cheGvVk_bWP4NUM0rzj-q3m3YzuPa6kjp9ao/s1600/IMG_1925.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBaj54VEuCUMGaRqiybnM3ugNYC2YuXG-Fn6z1BsxMNOM3RCiQehsK9c3qNPGhi7rHi3dmfU4bHdmGtHJdWCKvJuMZNWLnvmAZjjdw6Z6cheGvVk_bWP4NUM0rzj-q3m3YzuPa6kjp9ao/s1600/IMG_1925.jpg" height="640" width="456" /></a></div>
<br />
Regardless, I love this dress!<br />

Thats assuming you have kids you often sew for, ha!<br />
<br />
I sew a fair bit for myself normally, but I hoped to get through a more than normal this week. Not much luck, busy work week and tired me meant I've mostly been lying on the couch in the evening! And it's going to be a sunny warm weekend after a month of chilly weather so I suspect I won't get much more done! BUT I did sew up a skirt!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVGEmYmiuoo83XCxpdPCALX3uGZSyxmJsK9KNc9DWMDlrVatWcdWpVEUp38lBWm6BFTY6AlRo2oX2GhuXWZ-c79z33buPdSd7B3iw6NyNk05Ot_hqk8DrivkXc538ZBNW2r5751LlEx1E/s1600/IMG_1884.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVGEmYmiuoo83XCxpdPCALX3uGZSyxmJsK9KNc9DWMDlrVatWcdWpVEUp38lBWm6BFTY6AlRo2oX2GhuXWZ-c79z33buPdSd7B3iw6NyNk05Ot_hqk8DrivkXc538ZBNW2r5751LlEx1E/s1600/IMG_1884.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
A <a href="https://www.colettepatterns.com/sewing/zinnia">Colette Zinnia </a>in fact! From some of the err large amount of Cotton + Steel I may or may not have snagged at <a href="http://www.fabricationsottawa.com/">Fabrications</a> a few months ago!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHFgcazHiG1poyBq6HDmyuVG69Ryrcf1tlvG8qL7KJ0WS3k0hSFViTPZi8dFNmqAYZ_zo7qr1fJW8-Go8k8Ps9MK0nxnrFA3dU31l7DaTtJzzJRH-xKHC8Zh8CqQgyRugS9WfcrYJBMGQ/s1600/IMG_1885.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHFgcazHiG1poyBq6HDmyuVG69Ryrcf1tlvG8qL7KJ0WS3k0hSFViTPZi8dFNmqAYZ_zo7qr1fJW8-Go8k8Ps9MK0nxnrFA3dU31l7DaTtJzzJRH-xKHC8Zh8CqQgyRugS9WfcrYJBMGQ/s1600/IMG_1885.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Sadly, I only bought 1.5 meters, and it needs 2 meters because of the width in the skirt. So I cheated and narrowed the width and cut it the wrong direction. It's just quilting cotton so the drape isn't right anyway and the narrower width is probably more appropriate for the weight.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQfL60onEIG4u8C3ucaVT5t1Q_8LEm87B8TSFJOPyDqgtq7OttxbsXP_6RWhAiAn2wiPC0QJM39mgD_VuNoGuDL5rqQLjFJNBVXT_tgQ3hZ7a9zbbY3e1RrniJovXyK2rtG_62orfJjEQ/s1600/IMG_1883.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQfL60onEIG4u8C3ucaVT5t1Q_8LEm87B8TSFJOPyDqgtq7OttxbsXP_6RWhAiAn2wiPC0QJM39mgD_VuNoGuDL5rqQLjFJNBVXT_tgQ3hZ7a9zbbY3e1RrniJovXyK2rtG_62orfJjEQ/s1600/IMG_1883.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Otherwise she came together pretty easy, although I admit I sometimes detest sewing in pleats! Yet I LOVE the look of a full skirt, I may need to make more. One of these days I also need to sew myself up a proper underskirt too, it will totally make it lay better and prevent me always wanting to adjust the pleats!<br />

<br />
And it also has the required POCKETS. That is all.<br />
<br />
So in light of my lack of progress this week, I'm thinking I might just deem next week Selfish Shirt-dress Sewing Week and sew these up then then instead?<br />

This was one item of clothing I hadn't yet tackled, so when I saw it was part of the <a href="http://patternanthology.com/products/8-days-a-week-collection">8 Days a Week Collection</a>, I was super excited to test it!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
After much debate I thought I'd make it pretty casual and dug out some stretch denim I had in my stash. And for the lining I thought I'd channel my love of old buildings and used up my piece of blueprint from Caroyln Friedlander's Architextures collection (yes I realize I have no good picture of the inside, ha!), with a little splash of some Japanese import fabric for the accent.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
It's constructed basically the same as the little <a href="http://oldhousemama.blogspot.ca/2014/07/tale-of-imagine-jacket-and-silly.html">Imagine Jacket</a> I made M back in July. It's way more straight forward than you'd think with a jacket! And I think I got the hang of those welt pockets now!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6wD0lPb5VnmGTPuZaDeWHGY-pWvB_tI8u8dpsFl7YwbMIZnV_o4BOB64kcLZPjNzvsMy732u0W5kIh5enVvkWV-z1f-jFLJEFRljz8FeISjKyjsBGAmIygbBWEDLDj1x_dLjBlLv9Rh8/s1600/IMG_1746.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6wD0lPb5VnmGTPuZaDeWHGY-pWvB_tI8u8dpsFl7YwbMIZnV_o4BOB64kcLZPjNzvsMy732u0W5kIh5enVvkWV-z1f-jFLJEFRljz8FeISjKyjsBGAmIygbBWEDLDj1x_dLjBlLv9Rh8/s1600/IMG_1746.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>

It's super comfy with the rib knit and easy to wear! Now go check out the details on the patterns over on <a href="http://patternanthology.com/products/mccartney-jacket">Pattern Anthology!</a><br />

A great combination of basics and special pieces.<br />
<br />
I thought I'd start of my posts with the <a href="http://patternanthology.com/products/neptune-t-shirt">Neptune T-shirt</a>!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqhqzstMixy29vIufSqlz9OWQZqNgM419xkCEvsGd1-D1TTCT381OniV2xvFvwoqe4M5Tp5wFEMtNvoiWgcMLlyQVXJ9Fi_GxK0KIygYJijVkAVkI7Obi5WOgYDKXBepMy6NRmt6ZGoIw/s1600/IMG_1711.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqhqzstMixy29vIufSqlz9OWQZqNgM419xkCEvsGd1-D1TTCT381OniV2xvFvwoqe4M5Tp5wFEMtNvoiWgcMLlyQVXJ9Fi_GxK0KIygYJijVkAVkI7Obi5WOgYDKXBepMy6NRmt6ZGoIw/s1600/IMG_1711.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I usually shy away from sewing basics, like a t-shirt, as I have little time to sew and tend to want to only sew things that I can't easily buy. BUT this shirt has some awesome details that you can mix up to make a special tee you definitely can't buy!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj49QGbAnYuc5oHQ65sc4okAzZ-d9NsLjP77u17mf2zHr5RsgZfFoX966DC3PaUQnTk_fECOvybj6JLKGqQU51i78a2iG1n2vesvMRwYnJ3tLa0mvTPTXkL4U1wLoOaUcgee52MZCc7xPA/s1600/IMG_1712.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj49QGbAnYuc5oHQ65sc4okAzZ-d9NsLjP77u17mf2zHr5RsgZfFoX966DC3PaUQnTk_fECOvybj6JLKGqQU51i78a2iG1n2vesvMRwYnJ3tLa0mvTPTXkL4U1wLoOaUcgee52MZCc7xPA/s1600/IMG_1712.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Ideally this shirt needs a more stable knit, so I sewed mine up in some french terry. It made for a cozy shirt! I think though, especially if you opt to put other fabric in the triangles to stabilize the bindings you could use any knit! I have my next fabric already picked out!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiA9XXjCqKDRyO5ugQFxZTCYdF8Rh0YPaDGGwmSeKxSZpjufWUNZ9OeBmruKtipa6mq91iDM9fe1iIb1RC0g0adxQOkFYQW6Bjt9tBL2Ng4Dq5mEh88TdhmFVJpAwArQYK6CMUJWC16udk/s1600/IMG_1716.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiA9XXjCqKDRyO5ugQFxZTCYdF8Rh0YPaDGGwmSeKxSZpjufWUNZ9OeBmruKtipa6mq91iDM9fe1iIb1RC0g0adxQOkFYQW6Bjt9tBL2Ng4Dq5mEh88TdhmFVJpAwArQYK6CMUJWC16udk/s1600/IMG_1716.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I hover between a XS and an XXS, and in this case made the XXS. In hindsight, it's not my best size, given I have broad shoulders for my bust size, so I'm sizing up next time. Regardless this version is still totally wearable regardless (just pretend you don't see those lines under my arms, ha)! One of the reasons I love a knit, it stretches!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSMPzCQgCg-JAE4OeFP1g3NcVqhhJncY6Q8wF0hCQ_-pHel3uswgwtb0_4pjuaobUaKkDQRlvLDLOOBi5oVDxO3yzglvBrcr2MAbfFk8tPKLMRf9XKDrBDVcrn5c3N_9MdrrDKLX6Dw3E/s1600/IMG_1713.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSMPzCQgCg-JAE4OeFP1g3NcVqhhJncY6Q8wF0hCQ_-pHel3uswgwtb0_4pjuaobUaKkDQRlvLDLOOBi5oVDxO3yzglvBrcr2MAbfFk8tPKLMRf9XKDrBDVcrn5c3N_9MdrrDKLX6Dw3E/s1600/IMG_1713.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
One thing I particularly like about this pattern is the low/high hem option, I love the look, and the length is just perfect.<br />
<br />
So don't forget to go check out the <a href="http://patternanthology.com/products/8-days-a-week-collection">8 Days a Week collection</a>. The special bundle deal is only available for a limited time!<br />
<br />Johannahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13800066791757784747noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1820637424288227727.post-69165942087968390842014-07-24T22:53:00.001-04:002014-08-11T12:32:44.329-04:00KCW - Shorts time!I had plans to make some shorts and tanks for the boys this <a href="http://blog.kidsclothesweek.com/">Kids Clothes Week</a>. And well. I got the shorts done! My time yesterday and today has been spent trying to figure out what's wrong with my serger... to no avail. So I think I'll be sewing up the tanks on my regular machine tomorrow instead!<br />
<br />
But, well, I made SHORTS! Nothing fancy, but I've been meaning to make them shorts with these fabrics for over a year!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIIwiclAHti7H2ls394CpqCzmJ_K7zVeQgyp3gMZ2RK3z70w6NSXxSzdRUJ31LmS1bLRcyxChqwuxodOvM_DsH0ZPm_ESMXlnTwPfYrxdiQIpL3B5gZ-r0xjnM3p-A3Ex7LRwjriThDyI/s1600/eshorts3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIIwiclAHti7H2ls394CpqCzmJ_K7zVeQgyp3gMZ2RK3z70w6NSXxSzdRUJ31LmS1bLRcyxChqwuxodOvM_DsH0ZPm_ESMXlnTwPfYrxdiQIpL3B5gZ-r0xjnM3p-A3Ex7LRwjriThDyI/s1600/eshorts3.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
First up, some for little E. These are a modified version of the Quick Change Pants pattern from Anna Maria Horners book <a href="http://store.annamariahorner.com/seamstome1.html">Handmade Beginnings</a>. I didn't make them reversible, and shortened them to shorts length. I added an inch to the top to account for cloth diaper but and an elastic casing and bingo!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixPsREvqVOUqAg5jIQYn3zcIliFSHIhFY5iOwNCJaOu5oD0asU2BXNP3V0bbfFOpOXrysyooSvwdXLTS3XizoqxFeY5mJqyuXCWgOe0E09P63m5-lHpbEdtXuGsj78NTeUHrjyuAz3Yf4/s1600/eshorts4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixPsREvqVOUqAg5jIQYn3zcIliFSHIhFY5iOwNCJaOu5oD0asU2BXNP3V0bbfFOpOXrysyooSvwdXLTS3XizoqxFeY5mJqyuXCWgOe0E09P63m5-lHpbEdtXuGsj78NTeUHrjyuAz3Yf4/s1600/eshorts4.jpg" height="640" width="536" /></a></div>
<br />
I still made them to long, but I added a huge hem which I could roll up even more to make them fit like this. They will last a while as his big brother technically fits the width of his Quick Change Pants I made him in the same size years ago!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEii4T5wDlAtl-NFfVC2xBcRm4hZiJd0iz1C8TqvivN1xbFWwPAtFSrIIhDHlezBgpky7jmZPl0BP6Xm8TJIPjb1BRF91KiE_slSnhf3hi10VTIAoLpcZ1eQ-kE7ZvgRuqEeMzLC1WSWK9g/s1600/eshorts2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEii4T5wDlAtl-NFfVC2xBcRm4hZiJd0iz1C8TqvivN1xbFWwPAtFSrIIhDHlezBgpky7jmZPl0BP6Xm8TJIPjb1BRF91KiE_slSnhf3hi10VTIAoLpcZ1eQ-kE7ZvgRuqEeMzLC1WSWK9g/s1600/eshorts2.jpg" height="640" width="440" /></a></div>
<br />
Oh and the fabric? Why yes, his but is covered in a small scrap of lion fabric from the new Cotton + Steel line! And the buses are Kokka linen/cotton, both from<a href="http://www.fabricationsottawa.com/"> Fabrications</a>! This little boy LOVES buses, he was super excited when he saw them!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEip_8ICeMUY67a8f2flrBWUrW01RYQrZfjlzZ_lKedb52Oln_gdPPVeW9swwhXyc7jQKyVpOnNa6wj06nZ54TnJTvKRPq9nXCfhqftvx7khy2L3CfC9pt3Sqcb1cd0MxuTcSJmFJFDzchw/s1600/eshorts1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEip_8ICeMUY67a8f2flrBWUrW01RYQrZfjlzZ_lKedb52Oln_gdPPVeW9swwhXyc7jQKyVpOnNa6wj06nZ54TnJTvKRPq9nXCfhqftvx7khy2L3CfC9pt3Sqcb1cd0MxuTcSJmFJFDzchw/s1600/eshorts1.jpg" height="640" width="432" /></a></div>
<br />
Next up? Radio shorts! I have had this fabric from over 2 years I think and always planned to make shorts with it. So I did. And I have enough for more shorts!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqEyCUSfHOH-HNiITGF1_F_rPBoUH9l8ieoIC8aPfQ7lKsiIs90gVPdb0OD2OW7AHGr8UnPuSUNQSQSoDdHhMdSTBZmKxi6JQFMp-4NFMcfqkBSdEcq0j1YlusbEcaAxQR9YdBkp-A6PI/s1600/mshorts4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqEyCUSfHOH-HNiITGF1_F_rPBoUH9l8ieoIC8aPfQ7lKsiIs90gVPdb0OD2OW7AHGr8UnPuSUNQSQSoDdHhMdSTBZmKxi6JQFMp-4NFMcfqkBSdEcq0j1YlusbEcaAxQR9YdBkp-A6PI/s1600/mshorts4.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
These are the shorts version of the<a href="http://blankslatepatterns.com/products/clean-slate-pants-shorts-capris"> Clean Slate Pants </a>in 4T. This is a great pattern! It's available as part of the extended <a href="http://patternanthology.com/products/make-believe-pants">Pattern Anthology Collection </a>as well until this Monday! I just did the basic pants with the pockets, but in the future I totally want to do the welt back pockets and a fly! I also just ran the elastic through the whole waist band instead of leaving a flat front. My blue accent fabric was just a thinner quilting cotton which I hadn't interfaced, so it needed something more.<br />
<br />

<br />
He's also quite creative. And apparently he watched Zoolander behind our backs and now pulls out the most adorable poses ever when I ask him to stand STILL.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGdPPe9g7mEwnHBMYx4FtTVJiH9r2_-NDw-Bc4g9wf_GJcQ2VEli-Nj1XHsP2NHXuNQ418UW94Zu0-cTYwmCa-ek3JRq6UcM_hunHfwShqHN_HztcS0yIkXkbs9jiQ1TlLbY_d4yh1TK4/s1600/IMG_1382.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGdPPe9g7mEwnHBMYx4FtTVJiH9r2_-NDw-Bc4g9wf_GJcQ2VEli-Nj1XHsP2NHXuNQ418UW94Zu0-cTYwmCa-ek3JRq6UcM_hunHfwShqHN_HztcS0yIkXkbs9jiQ1TlLbY_d4yh1TK4/s1600/IMG_1382.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
He totally works it though, and I love it. NOW, back to the jacket.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh14Ubnd82SA4GkugmGLwcALfFrv9vwIFWe0ME1HS2krwmW0K1FTtpcyJ8cX1BgYjcU2Pu5HS8JueFpx9zSBeCfc4KRd280_zZGuq2Jw9eMjlXs_myJFM4cQPgctrQncFvZBnFhqK61owk/s1600/IMG_1372.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh14Ubnd82SA4GkugmGLwcALfFrv9vwIFWe0ME1HS2krwmW0K1FTtpcyJ8cX1BgYjcU2Pu5HS8JueFpx9zSBeCfc4KRd280_zZGuq2Jw9eMjlXs_myJFM4cQPgctrQncFvZBnFhqK61owk/s1600/IMG_1372.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I've not sewed many jackets. Not normally something I'd see myself taking the time to do. This pattern has changed my mind though! so many great details (welt pockets!, rib cuffs!) but still pretty simple construction. This pattern will be my go too next time a need a jacket for my boys!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmZIgs4eL5X4vcqEAuo-j6eOG97ZDX-n-LwPjPNslTZabCODIbCfpvZ3ayBlUZq09xD6ZbIjyp_BKquLi8g7UDdbGccXeKVRgBVNhhAIhV_xX5MvBYS8qnpQmUjVs8OHXsRvF2Eq9h8Ew/s1600/IMG_1623.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmZIgs4eL5X4vcqEAuo-j6eOG97ZDX-n-LwPjPNslTZabCODIbCfpvZ3ayBlUZq09xD6ZbIjyp_BKquLi8g7UDdbGccXeKVRgBVNhhAIhV_xX5MvBYS8qnpQmUjVs8OHXsRvF2Eq9h8Ew/s1600/IMG_1623.jpg" height="640" width="544" /></a></div>
<br />
In particular this will be M's jacket for this fall. I just hope he's ok with the zipper! I put in a chunkier one for that exactly reason.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigk5fb988uSN82alDAWwiSKdQccIVwou_6xgt1yl22wLKElJGwD44pl-0g0_7eVB24UQdKplATPucoEX1UIZr32DazcuyGCITCIJTiury7y0sIjP_quy00JJWj1u8DTFqtOszrWd_5TJI/s1600/IMG_1381.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigk5fb988uSN82alDAWwiSKdQccIVwou_6xgt1yl22wLKElJGwD44pl-0g0_7eVB24UQdKplATPucoEX1UIZr32DazcuyGCITCIJTiury7y0sIjP_quy00JJWj1u8DTFqtOszrWd_5TJI/s1600/IMG_1381.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I finally cut into and use most of this awesome camera fabric I picked up at <a href="http://www.fabricationsottawa.com/" target="_blank">Fabrications </a>back probably over a year ago for the lining, and just used some blue twill for the rest.<br />
<br />
I think he likes it!<br />
<br />

<br />
I
love sewing knits! These days there are more and more cute prints you
can get your hands on (I used some Lillestoff here) and knits are soo
easy to wear and cozy! They are such quick sews too, no need to finish
seams! I even used my regular machine, but with a good walking foot and
a fake overlock or zig zag stitch it's works great!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgluY-w2li37RSzQuWUJ0u5gUW_j9Xl8UeSNh3axMawVt32hm7HM9mLYgecvEd0EhI9hIfKuYXY7aZGgFX8-liLp0ne6tw2PR06_FXJZ8Z0d1UyrGHRT6IoHAZTkDxjPe91ihxeidRb4ZY/s1600/IMG_1388.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgluY-w2li37RSzQuWUJ0u5gUW_j9Xl8UeSNh3axMawVt32hm7HM9mLYgecvEd0EhI9hIfKuYXY7aZGgFX8-liLp0ne6tw2PR06_FXJZ8Z0d1UyrGHRT6IoHAZTkDxjPe91ihxeidRb4ZY/s1600/IMG_1388.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
And also? I love hoods! And he looks cute in hoods!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEij3k-Lw7YAjcObT-wW8d_TiAHChyphenhyphentky7t7qULZT4yfo7POYq9gpQy82OCJ9_whUxCQ0QhJ54yRRH2TYEEZiMSUi3fcbCu6zg2kahlyj03gn5uQs4Ron3aK34Xsgusqql76OmD04VGbph4/s1600/IMG_1404.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEij3k-Lw7YAjcObT-wW8d_TiAHChyphenhyphentky7t7qULZT4yfo7POYq9gpQy82OCJ9_whUxCQ0QhJ54yRRH2TYEEZiMSUi3fcbCu6zg2kahlyj03gn5uQs4Ron3aK34Xsgusqql76OmD04VGbph4/s1600/IMG_1404.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I
love the angled zipper option in particular with this pattern! Next
time I plan to add the button tab as well. My zipper is a bit wavy as I
had mean to interface it, but otherwise I love it! And he has room to
grow in it too. It'll be perfect for the cooler evenings we know are a
month or two away.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
So, now get ourself over here and get the pattern! (And please excuse the drool)<br />
<br />
And don't forget to check out my posts for the other patterns in the collection, the <a href="http://oldhousemama.blogspot.ca/2014/07/make-believe-in-book-worm-button-up.html" target="_blank">Bookworm Button Up</a> and the <a href="http://oldhousemama.blogspot.ca/2014/07/adventure-in-tee-shirt.html" target="_blank">Adventure Tee!</a><br />
<br />
And check back tomorrow for my version of the last but definitely NOT least pattern, the Imagine Jacket!<br />

<br />
Next up is the<a href="http://patternanthology.com/products/adventure-tee" target="_blank"> Adventure Tee!</a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtOt8NmxhQ2zqSyi6XEQRdizlVsLsB63cBCu85SG4l3LTvvST4ze8Rae5fcuhKN-SBzfdmK3f97k3Z_oEsOSDrmltL5MtyMXjoXFyZkK5Cvz68Xs5sMfvNNIWe0nGhYIVyZJGevlWzpEw/s1600/IMG_1525.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtOt8NmxhQ2zqSyi6XEQRdizlVsLsB63cBCu85SG4l3LTvvST4ze8Rae5fcuhKN-SBzfdmK3f97k3Z_oEsOSDrmltL5MtyMXjoXFyZkK5Cvz68Xs5sMfvNNIWe0nGhYIVyZJGevlWzpEw/s1600/IMG_1525.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I love sewing with knits for my boys, so was super excited to try out some of the many, many awesome options in this pattern! I opted to use many of them in this shirt. The placket, tabs and zipper pocket in particular. They are such an awesome way to fancy up a comfy tee!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2j8fDTMaKkgTcrmfOT4WC4pxzDKk5zpDyEwUFLwXOkKgHuWxoWE1ofQ1FVNJNeJFbofB5tsT47RNUB2uRCLwop2Kq0tWEamp-eFqCX1QDxCEXbEJVjYOr-krUfBqib8eCiSgGgZZ-MZY/s1600/IMG_1517.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2j8fDTMaKkgTcrmfOT4WC4pxzDKk5zpDyEwUFLwXOkKgHuWxoWE1ofQ1FVNJNeJFbofB5tsT47RNUB2uRCLwop2Kq0tWEamp-eFqCX1QDxCEXbEJVjYOr-krUfBqib8eCiSgGgZZ-MZY/s1600/IMG_1517.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
The pattern calls for these to be made in knit like the rest, but I wanted to use orange, and only had woven fabric and it worked perfectly!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQZPVqPX8JQZXYnPyJtaJK-bI4hcoKsjVqzc2kC-cefQh8ym0oL6Ss8HjVzB7_1Z76U9FSjx21Of-xvknZA0kNJ3DsjwcYXAW_inhKC0Orvz1hOcSpSpz9XemDWuUCkyr4LDUPMJpgxRw/s1600/IMG_1516.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQZPVqPX8JQZXYnPyJtaJK-bI4hcoKsjVqzc2kC-cefQh8ym0oL6Ss8HjVzB7_1Z76U9FSjx21Of-xvknZA0kNJ3DsjwcYXAW_inhKC0Orvz1hOcSpSpz9XemDWuUCkyr4LDUPMJpgxRw/s1600/IMG_1516.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
This was also a great opportunity to cut into some of my treasured Lillistoff Euro knit from <a href="http://www.simplififabric.com/" target="_blank">Simplifi Fabric</a>. This boy loves dinosaurs, and I love putting bright colours and patterns on my boys, so it worked out perfect (and he likes it!)!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwk5hL7dYy6nh8wIhCmmm4w7wikjNeorlxY7WSlt8WDZAiIz07PW7OPZUcAMwqlEd3E43rOidzWMnnsNxvsschi0Ijbf2NbLheBFAMX3V_RJuRkAdR-SHIfmDAyUpK_J9nejHTCW3p_2k/s1600/IMG_1523.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwk5hL7dYy6nh8wIhCmmm4w7wikjNeorlxY7WSlt8WDZAiIz07PW7OPZUcAMwqlEd3E43rOidzWMnnsNxvsschi0Ijbf2NbLheBFAMX3V_RJuRkAdR-SHIfmDAyUpK_J9nejHTCW3p_2k/s1600/IMG_1523.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
This kid is turning into a real poser. Whenever he sees a camera come out the posing starts. In these photos he tells me he's being a rock star. So adorable.<br />

I got a chance to test the patterns for the new Pattern Anthology Collection <a href="http://patternanthology.com/products/make-believe-pants" target="_blank">Make (Believe)</a>! <br />
<br />
I'll be sharing with you all the 4 projects in the next week or so. Check out my Instagram feed or my Facebook page for some other sneak peaks! In the meantime go snag your copy of the collection and tell me what you're going to make! <br />
<br />
I absolutely adore button down shirts on little boys, so was super excited to see that the Bookworm Button up was in the collection and to finally actually make one for my boys! I've made an adult sized one, but never a teeny one before.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQiabmO-VwZ-O6fT-2GdFWsSHCmyCvNaKPT_dV90OI6fUdlrUuHPZ7Lp0eWG4G_KX6IfQRstNXOd-3BtlaBr4875rFBQQsTR8FevdWdaLPtFYQh8L4cNLfsG3Nzu48OAh9Sz0QqQVFseI/s1600/IMG_1559.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQiabmO-VwZ-O6fT-2GdFWsSHCmyCvNaKPT_dV90OI6fUdlrUuHPZ7Lp0eWG4G_KX6IfQRstNXOd-3BtlaBr4875rFBQQsTR8FevdWdaLPtFYQh8L4cNLfsG3Nzu48OAh9Sz0QqQVFseI/s1600/IMG_1559.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
And I have to say, it was waaaay easier then I remember the Mr's shirt being. The instructions were clear and well laid out, which helped a ton! I made view A, but if I had girls, I'd be all over the bow sleeves in views C and D!<br />
<br />
I particularly love the pleated pockets. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihV5T-Ca8tccHz7E1CtWqHxBzkICMzv4dJ8OwquZKV3NUVSUwx14yuIDwiyZQ1IKSF72bIJC2NSkdq4_AMSaEnzh8ipwd51ABFjNT2DOk9zIb2XhTH021zHACvGut2_d41lFuwGeszFx4/s1600/IMG_1579.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihV5T-Ca8tccHz7E1CtWqHxBzkICMzv4dJ8OwquZKV3NUVSUwx14yuIDwiyZQ1IKSF72bIJC2NSkdq4_AMSaEnzh8ipwd51ABFjNT2DOk9zIb2XhTH021zHACvGut2_d41lFuwGeszFx4/s1600/IMG_1579.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
It was also the perfect chance to use up this adorable Japanese fabric I had just picked up from <a href="http://fabricationsottawa.com/" target="_blank">Fabrications</a>! Who doesn't like whales eh?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOLrLl-X0fgu4EWTN6Dgu-4f_HWeOgnZPxI_GPL2_BF_K4c-W41W7CFrlOaPz7xXRb5y0GPsNqS4hsKxFTjVEWD03lrvZfpCr_2Ph5cLFC3rztBdKe5nADH9PK_2jC9NfwKSVrrXz4VlQ/s1600/IMG_1567.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOLrLl-X0fgu4EWTN6Dgu-4f_HWeOgnZPxI_GPL2_BF_K4c-W41W7CFrlOaPz7xXRb5y0GPsNqS4hsKxFTjVEWD03lrvZfpCr_2Ph5cLFC3rztBdKe5nADH9PK_2jC9NfwKSVrrXz4VlQ/s1600/IMG_1567.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
And well, adorable right? <br />
<br />
So if you've been scared to try making a shirt like this before, don't be! Just do it! I plan to make up one for my older son next! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
So now don't forget to check out the collection over at <a href="http://patternanthology.com/" target="_blank">Pattern Anthology! </a>There are three awesome ways to get the patterns. All four together for $19.95. Add in the super neat activity book for $24.95, OR best of them all, add in 4 pants patterns for $34.95. <br />

<br />
As you fine readers may have noticed... I love dresses. And lately, I love sewing with knits. I also love strawberries. So well yeah, when I saw this fabric on <a href="http://www.loiseaufabrics.com/" target="_blank">L'Oiseau Fabric</a>'s site, I clearly had to buy it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgB-eumW4uHjJtII9Z8onnELsTsEm7x4efF7SiWzScYwsbl7Epkr41gmc8DSAuUGzg1BkT4feJHZYdIkcXOFRHVuMXxtuns3ZF0boc6jGoxt076_4IIwhybenJuF8f4VA5pksfQQ8lL8_c/s1600/IMG_1505.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgB-eumW4uHjJtII9Z8onnELsTsEm7x4efF7SiWzScYwsbl7Epkr41gmc8DSAuUGzg1BkT4feJHZYdIkcXOFRHVuMXxtuns3ZF0boc6jGoxt076_4IIwhybenJuF8f4VA5pksfQQ8lL8_c/s1600/IMG_1505.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
After some thought, I decided to make something simple and not childish. Thankfully <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/177577049/pdf-sewing-pattern-v-neck-cap-sleeve?ref=shop_home_active_13" target="_blank">Salme Pattern</a>'s had recently released a V-neck Dress pattern which fit the bill. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgF_I9r3Bk55s8bEvrli1cE0eVg2b8FghhRehXgTGrbI4vxRP1QWnjOm_VTbSKZU836GYK0Hq5cWwxDgUTJEJ2Odh29D74j5fA71g9YOC1Nlf3gEDibPynECf25JKpTh_OepvVi9aL_cuU/s1600/IMG_1503.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgF_I9r3Bk55s8bEvrli1cE0eVg2b8FghhRehXgTGrbI4vxRP1QWnjOm_VTbSKZU836GYK0Hq5cWwxDgUTJEJ2Odh29D74j5fA71g9YOC1Nlf3gEDibPynECf25JKpTh_OepvVi9aL_cuU/s1600/IMG_1503.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
It went well, I cut a size bigger than my normal thinking I needed too based on measurements (I actually have a thick waist compared to the rest of me, surprising, I know.) But I ended up taking it back in. I also realize how much I hate facings on knits. I don't care what you all say, they Do.Not.Stay.Down. So I topstiched anyways.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib0Tem3L5ruGCejiibQHQIkUE8rPao0Hr1qHdUv5Fy96N2P5SqeBuPiXNQTTX8ND-Flow3mogveA1MWoMpFmbAd8ifou277TTukvewDwiK0VPfct5JAGhGTiEwiCcr8BEbO1b2Fur7KFE/s1600/IMG_1507.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib0Tem3L5ruGCejiibQHQIkUE8rPao0Hr1qHdUv5Fy96N2P5SqeBuPiXNQTTX8ND-Flow3mogveA1MWoMpFmbAd8ifou277TTukvewDwiK0VPfct5JAGhGTiEwiCcr8BEbO1b2Fur7KFE/s1600/IMG_1507.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I also added some red knit to the shoulders for some interest. I'm not yet sure if looks neat or vaguely military. Thoughts? <br />
<br />
Also, my oldest son is a crazy kid, and insisted on being in the photos, so I thought I'd share his silliness too. Just wait till you see some of the photos of him modelling some new pieces I've recently sewn for him. Man that kid has the poses down! If I didn't know better, I'd have thought he'd watched Zoolander.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixgqJlFFP7QmhTM9BvRU_-h5bWyMNZHtNzXrdkT4_Ag8jMrG9N2LhHgBF0G8CRwqUnp6SMCMb7w6deEaVs7z1lHC71vkQKEKLF8I2IeqWIjSrRQnlRbog-gqKw0kPe8t5P5iOkj6-iDNM/s1600/IMG_1489.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixgqJlFFP7QmhTM9BvRU_-h5bWyMNZHtNzXrdkT4_Ag8jMrG9N2LhHgBF0G8CRwqUnp6SMCMb7w6deEaVs7z1lHC71vkQKEKLF8I2IeqWIjSrRQnlRbog-gqKw0kPe8t5P5iOkj6-iDNM/s1600/IMG_1489.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Final note. I recently discovered some ridiculously awesome Canadian retailers of serious awesome patterned knits. <a href="http://www.simplififabric.com/" target="_blank">Simplifi Fabric</a> in Ontario, and the aforementioned <a href="http://www.loiseaufabrics.com/" target="_blank">L'Oiseau</a> in Alberta. Not to mention a few awesome Facebook groups. My sewing budget is basically blown.Johannahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13800066791757784747noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1820637424288227727.post-22276704029882298262014-06-25T14:14:00.001-04:002014-06-25T14:14:25.694-04:00A very belated Me Made May round-upIt's been a busy few months and I've been a neglectful blogger! </div>
<br>
I've actually been sewing up a bit of teeny storm the last month or so with the help of a few concentrated sewing days with some sewing friends! So it seems perfect timing that I pledge to join in on <a href="http://sozowhatdoyouknow.blogspot.ca/2014/04/me-made-may14-sign-up-here.html" target="_blank">Me Made May</a> for the first time!<br>
<br>
I'm not convinced I have enough to wear one things a day, so <span style="color: #0b5394;"><b>I've pledge to wear something handmade at least 5 days a week!</b></span><br>
<br>
I also hope this, along with Selfish Sewing Week this week will help motivate me to finish sewing the 5ish things for me I have cut out right now and to use some the gorgeous fabrics I've acquired lately!<br>
<br>
I will also pledge to blog once a week on Sundays the results of the past week! This will get me finally blogging a few neat things I've made lately!<br>
<br>
I'm also going to try to post what I wear each day on my <a href="http://www.instagram.com/johannaph" target="_blank">instagram</a>, and will occasionally update my <a href="http://www.facebook.com/oldhousemamawears" target="_blank">Old House Mama Wears</a> on Facebook and <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/j-han/" target="_blank">flickr </a>too! <br>
<br>
Anyone else want to join in? Oops?<br />
<br />
All the more reason to start spring sewing right? Yes!<br />
<br />
I've also learned that I seem to get the most sewing done with a random self imposed deadline. For instance, I bought the gorgeous Nani Iro double gauze at <a href="http://www.fabricationsottawa.com/" target="_blank">Fabrications </a>a few weeks ago and then decided I MUST make a shirt from it for St Patricks day.<br />

<span style="font-size: xx-small;">Please excuse the wrinkles! I had just taken it of after wearing it for a while!</span></div>
<br />
I'm not Irish remotely, and I'm not big on celebrating random holidays, but hey, any excuse to make something right?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7GNTM4gYPg3s0oGiKJvrLln8Us4Upkc4L8UZjbW_BYw9gxVpMNXKgSuB5jTi0b0Ar9AVT0814O2W6eDdeDXqDcUI-38c98rhGsaB4sFTjnB5_7Mrp43x4cffI1iEwxl8zEXscLk6pO64/s1600/IMG_1108.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7GNTM4gYPg3s0oGiKJvrLln8Us4Upkc4L8UZjbW_BYw9gxVpMNXKgSuB5jTi0b0Ar9AVT0814O2W6eDdeDXqDcUI-38c98rhGsaB4sFTjnB5_7Mrp43x4cffI1iEwxl8zEXscLk6pO64/s1600/IMG_1108.jpg" height="640" width="432" /></a></div>
<br />
So I finally made up a <a href="http://www.shopwiksten.com/product/tank-top-sewing-pattern-downloadable-pdf" target="_blank">Wiksten tank</a>. I've been meaning to make one for basically years, and I'm glad a finally did.<br />
<br />
It's a quick sew, and super cute. I was also able to get this out of a single meter of fabric with only some slight adjustments to make it a bit narrower (which I had already planned anyways) and voila! Oh I did also cut it to the length of a medium to account for my height too.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4QozWrF6XWd3YAVb-Sk1DKMri5uPNY5wq8B-vHglM3jy9QzoQjLLqIA9FFAjRoulANI2bz6j4G9eKE9o2c6fXRh6UOrY0Mn5McCHAqR8egS5fXNRqfh9bgSmqEsNnFpJVPvJpcRkNYMY/s1600/IMG_1101.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4QozWrF6XWd3YAVb-Sk1DKMri5uPNY5wq8B-vHglM3jy9QzoQjLLqIA9FFAjRoulANI2bz6j4G9eKE9o2c6fXRh6UOrY0Mn5McCHAqR8egS5fXNRqfh9bgSmqEsNnFpJVPvJpcRkNYMY/s1600/IMG_1101.jpg" height="640" width="440" /></a></div>
<br />
I also kinda love how the design is kinda unbalanced as a result of me having to cut out the front and back beside each other not above. I think it's a neat effect!<br />
<br />
Will I make more? I hope so!! I can see a whole summer of these!<br />
<br />

So I thought I'd join the bandwagon and make that <a href="http://april-rhodes.com/products/the-staple-dress" target="_blank">Staple Dress by April Rhodes</a> people keep bloggin about.<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU9HJW_qGttrPtKZMt3Pgbeo3L4ZB-w6-75KEM_gGgNfufvVIEsdwcupw34GQ1gFxIxeNR-9XHq8qJpke9AWUDP8nv8lAlMEGQPcOq5ZUvIvJGXAqrmByXcahnzV8R843R5s6hUsObacA/s1600/IMG_0891.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU9HJW_qGttrPtKZMt3Pgbeo3L4ZB-w6-75KEM_gGgNfufvVIEsdwcupw34GQ1gFxIxeNR-9XHq8qJpke9AWUDP8nv8lAlMEGQPcOq5ZUvIvJGXAqrmByXcahnzV8R843R5s6hUsObacA/s1600/IMG_0891.jpg" height="640" width="370" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Simple, cute, can use most fabrics for it = win for me. I hoped I could make it my go to pattern for quick dresses, because well, I love dresses and have limited sewing time.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgh2nvaJO2g4TnpAOSo7EvCPootXwZuEnAhQS0qfx_oDQHT-5udUS4PsyW-KXYEwgdEJXnZO-9T_sihxsPE9bRDZwK7v8gst0eUT06YVR_EFCM2O1RYILvWElttnRI7-C47shZrnVQuseo/s1600/IMG_0865.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgh2nvaJO2g4TnpAOSo7EvCPootXwZuEnAhQS0qfx_oDQHT-5udUS4PsyW-KXYEwgdEJXnZO-9T_sihxsPE9bRDZwK7v8gst0eUT06YVR_EFCM2O1RYILvWElttnRI7-C47shZrnVQuseo/s1600/IMG_0865.jpg" height="640" width="388" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I purposely just made the XS, hoping it would fit well enough and I would alter any future versions. With the elastic shirring waist, I figured it would fit ok regardless. I'm not however a fan of high necks for a few reasons, mainly because I'm still nursing little E. So I did grade down the neck a good bit, and out a teeny bit.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhj41nCZU9L9dx3QHyh8Wzg7rH1ScP6WpCcEOeb3x_Z1KWA1p9qGYUDRmJHzn7KtVrIz-uf3T4g9qsAAPvMQyC6cOfQhP8UKvOfKQP9Y7bTAOrqAmjp6ZhFjckqaOiC8WR37-9jIi16TNA/s1600/IMG_0880.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhj41nCZU9L9dx3QHyh8Wzg7rH1ScP6WpCcEOeb3x_Z1KWA1p9qGYUDRmJHzn7KtVrIz-uf3T4g9qsAAPvMQyC6cOfQhP8UKvOfKQP9Y7bTAOrqAmjp6ZhFjckqaOiC8WR37-9jIi16TNA/s1600/IMG_0880.jpg" height="640" width="390" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I was also sewing with a quilting weight cotton, not ideal (but super cute!), but again, I figured I'd try it. I also wanted to try the drop hem. Drop hem + this weight of fabric = not the best, but again, ok!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrPdaZXm3GBG8aIh2cMxpGCpIIXPClNZ9w9pVYALKbk8gsYB0KA_2kVtMvK8gp0UEUVAeQnYEbFLF67Y35L4zp-l-vjr4I-SlzsIyjsTKzb9BWKa_yUiIiAl0o9QRX__t_Y99wxUwl2h0/s1600/IMG_0874.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrPdaZXm3GBG8aIh2cMxpGCpIIXPClNZ9w9pVYALKbk8gsYB0KA_2kVtMvK8gp0UEUVAeQnYEbFLF67Y35L4zp-l-vjr4I-SlzsIyjsTKzb9BWKa_yUiIiAl0o9QRX__t_Y99wxUwl2h0/s1600/IMG_0874.jpg" height="640" width="414" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So results? Definitely quick, easy and cute, but the XS is still way too big on me, with gaping across the bodice under the arms. Sure its a relaxed fit, but not this much.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtfvW6yECY0oN3eNeSsU0fQuSs2sa1cTaTVO4sTK-73URYAde69wpJ1vn9ghhQocIAA_BbfGyZXpLyaIhPLRDgJ_CU46lp9Gkjkye1RHoLiUyk1PXk0Z0XAIicildLfGB7PUMTXwVSjBc/s1600/IMG_0887.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtfvW6yECY0oN3eNeSsU0fQuSs2sa1cTaTVO4sTK-73URYAde69wpJ1vn9ghhQocIAA_BbfGyZXpLyaIhPLRDgJ_CU46lp9Gkjkye1RHoLiUyk1PXk0Z0XAIicildLfGB7PUMTXwVSjBc/s1600/IMG_0887.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Solution? Added a inverted box pleat to the neck line at the front and a little one at the back. Sure this meant my neckline doesn't allow for nursing, but it brought everything together. I could have taken in and redrafted the sides, but this was a quicker fix for this one.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKctmj9hCwwDG4NyqgZJbihUaVgW4IbazhS99KwIwFsxlXHT4oEjMtVx712gfLil-LLSBm5zHjV7g8SS4S90NA8PbaJRjq-PlSNLRN9gmD-fJFwDmQtYx82vFDneg1V7RKVBu1qvcOGh0/s1600/IMG_0879.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKctmj9hCwwDG4NyqgZJbihUaVgW4IbazhS99KwIwFsxlXHT4oEjMtVx712gfLil-LLSBm5zHjV7g8SS4S90NA8PbaJRjq-PlSNLRN9gmD-fJFwDmQtYx82vFDneg1V7RKVBu1qvcOGh0/s1600/IMG_0879.jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div>
Next time? I need to take a inch at least out of the centre on the fold, THEN with an adjusted neck? It should equal awesome. Knit version next time maybe?</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

<div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrkEGpgNMZ00QhBHfFveg8KEBXpAThKeUFT7jim9_28f2GqmHzJUEgF0qwUMRg07CwHcele6CKYXhOd6TKxt7fycp_NjdmnXklCXjyOfhBSEr04fuW4HjPUcECzIg9KVK2BquTMd6noos/s1600/IMG_0528.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrkEGpgNMZ00QhBHfFveg8KEBXpAThKeUFT7jim9_28f2GqmHzJUEgF0qwUMRg07CwHcele6CKYXhOd6TKxt7fycp_NjdmnXklCXjyOfhBSEr04fuW4HjPUcECzIg9KVK2BquTMd6noos/s1600/IMG_0528.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
M loves sea creatures these days, and when I saw <a href="http://build-a-diy.tumblr.com/post/60084351985/8-foot-giant-squid-pillow-youll-need-2-yards" target="_blank">these directions pinned </a>on Pinterest… and with Mr. OHM's encouragement, I had to make it. Lots of fleece and a GIANT bag of stuffing later, here he is!<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2nNltbPa7eho9wGFJ-G2-XoY1Af0UHjXENR402HJm63iOmnveKasqIj2BGiMN2YqxqW-kgREtScT-QcccHbJ9JEyeo89f2s-uu2hXImzlf8NU6guA-tQJO40u5mEk0QC_NUpRIlzWDVQ/s1600/IMG_0522.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2nNltbPa7eho9wGFJ-G2-XoY1Af0UHjXENR402HJm63iOmnveKasqIj2BGiMN2YqxqW-kgREtScT-QcccHbJ9JEyeo89f2s-uu2hXImzlf8NU6guA-tQJO40u5mEk0QC_NUpRIlzWDVQ/s1600/IMG_0522.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
He greeted the kids Christmas morning and M was thrilled, giving him lots of hugs before he had him attacking the pirate ship he got from Oma (oh and massaging him with his new toy drill too… poor Ponky).</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTgmGQHJqJxiScIy1_4SROehhZKh-pNJZURnvJP5YoWA3MRvn6z0eHfa4qGHjoxVYg4UZBgh2lJLGprkrshyphenhyphenKJgnFVwooKibAnCboKFl5zgTB7HQRLtrI9KcKdLnnFiLkGXHp-9ug0Tc8/s1600/IMG_0580.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTgmGQHJqJxiScIy1_4SROehhZKh-pNJZURnvJP5YoWA3MRvn6z0eHfa4qGHjoxVYg4UZBgh2lJLGprkrshyphenhyphenKJgnFVwooKibAnCboKFl5zgTB7HQRLtrI9KcKdLnnFiLkGXHp-9ug0Tc8/s1600/IMG_0580.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The directions I had were pretty good, and I think he turned out well.. Stuffing the loges tentacles was a super huge pain, and I ended up having to add a second opening (more hand sewing yay!)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And I was sooo on top of things before Christmas that I was sewing the eye on Christmas morning before they kids woke up…. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Why Ponky you ask? I have no idea, that's just what M named him, and I think it's rather cute.</div>
<div>
